Radley has a School Council made up of elected representatives from Year 1 to Year 6. The representatives take the views of their class to the meetings for discussion and action, the current topic under debate being the creation of an outdoor reflective area. The School Council also lead our Friday act of worship, which takes the form of a Celebration Assembly.
2016/2017 Summer Term Council Members
Summer term started with a new set of councilors ready with ideas and suggestions. The theme for the celebration assemblies on a Friday is British wildlife. The children are highlighting some endangered species, plants and animals that are native to Great Britain. The most exciting part of the term saw the much awaited arrival of the outdoor classroom. Everyone is looking forward to using it all year round.
This term focused on sporting ideas. Mrs Yates attended one of the meetings to talk about achieving the Gold Sports Award. Everyone put forward ideas on different events/teams and competitions that interested them. Mrs Yates was then able to plan the sports for the coming summer term. Certificates were once again handed out at the end of the children's term on the council.
The council are full of ideas again!!! Here are a few: Discussions were held about authors visiting and mixed class reading days. Sponsored runs and Guiness World Record attempts!! Half term ended with another successful and well supported cake sale, raising £82. The money has been shared across the school for the children to choose some more playtime equipment.
During this term’s topics of debate the council thought about themed days and school visits. Ideas suggested involved art and music days with mixed age groups and a trip to a museum in London. Another popular choice was a pyjama and reading day. The highlight of the month was a live interview with Radio Oxford and BBC South Today, in aid of Children in Need.
The new elected committee are working well together and are busy thinking up new ideas. They have settled really well into their roles, in the Friday Celebration Assembly. A theme for the assembly is around the world, each week one of the council will tell the school about a different country in the world. They have shown power points, maps, and read out interesting facts. An after school cake sale was greatly supported and provided £16 for each of the four classrooms to spend on their choice.
