Our Curriculum

Intent

We facilitate a challenging, thoughtful and engaging curriculum for all of our children through the provision of rich and varied learning opportunities and experiences that will enable them to be the very best they can be. Those achievements will be academic, creative, competitive and collaborative. Our curriculum is adapted and developed to provide opportunities for children to apply their attitudes, skills and knowledge in meaningful situations.

Implementation

Here at Radley Primary School we provide a broad and balanced curriculum based around the Cornerstones Curriculum, a nationally recognised approach for delivering outstanding learning opportunities for children.

What is the Cornerstones Curriculum?
The Cornerstones Curriculum is a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the 2014 primary national curriculum to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations. It is based on a child-centred pedagogy called The Four Cornerstones and is delivered through Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs) and Knowledge Rich Projects (KRPs), which provide a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of children’s learning. We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Our curriculum provides many learning challenges throughout the academic year that require children to solve problems, apply themselves creatively and express their knowledge and understanding effectively. Cornerstones also provide a rigorous skills and knowledge framework that outlines the end of year expectations in all subjects. These skills and knowledge are tied to activities and are age-related so that staff can track children’s progress and identify their individual learning needs.

Impact

Outcomes
Our curriculum's aim is for high standards and positive outcomes for all pupils. It equips them with the knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary to succeed academically and prepares them for the next stage of their education or employment. Pupil progress and attainments are closely monitored and tracked, ensuring appropriate support is provided to those who need it.

Engagement and Attitudes to Learning
The Radley curriculum is developed to foster a love for learning, promoting curiosity, resilience, and a growth mindset. Pupils should be actively engaged in lessons, demonstrating a thirst for knowledge and a willingness to take risks. They should approach challenges with confidence and perseverance, developing the skills necessary for lifelong learning.

Personal Development and Wellbeing
Our curriculum nurtures pupils' personal development and well-being. It promotes positive values, resilience, and emotional intelligence. Opportunities for personal reflection, self-expression, and developing social skills should be embedded. Pupils should feel safe, valued, and supported, with their mental health and emotional needs considered.

Equality and Inclusion
Furthermore, our curriculum has been designed to actively promote equality and inclusion. It celebrates diversity, fostering mutual respect, tolerance, and understanding. It embeds strategies to meet the needs of pupils with different abilities, backgrounds, and talents, ensuring that all individuals can thrive and contribute positively to society.
